π Hey, blog!
π₯ This week we watched a popular K-drama titled Love Alarm. This K-drama was placed in a world where an app can alert you if someone nearby has a crush on you. In addition to that, we get to see how students are coping with their emotions and personal lives. Some appear to have it easy while others have to hide away hoping that they can eventually become the person they feel like they should be.
π I personally am a big fan of K-dramas. I feel like they help me escape the world and enter a place where all my idealistic hopes are possible. This K-drama, though, is not like your typical one. For starters, this one has a kiss scene right from the start. Normally, the most action we get is a handhold near episode 14. Still, I did enjoy watching this K-drama for the minor characters' storylines. I am a fan of the main cast, too, so watching this show was pleasant for me and I can't wait for season 2 which is coming out soon! (On a side note, I wanted to mention how some app creators have already formed an app similar to the one in Love Alarm. You can find it on the Play Store.)
π One thing that I think is worth mentioning is how fans of K-dramas, or of any other kind of international show, should remember that what is portrayed on a show is not often an accurate representation of reality. I know that it's nice to think that we could escape to another country to live like a main character that we've seen in a show, but life will probably not be as nice as you expect it to be. Some fans of K-dramas or K-pop have traveled to Korea thinking that everyone would be like the people they've seen on a screen and are disillusioned when they find out that that's not the case. In order to protect ourselves, we must remember that visual culture can affect perspectives and it's important to not fall for it.
π I would definitely recommend this series! There are many other awesome K-dramas that I would recommend to you too: True Beauty, Guardian: The Lonely and Great God (Goblin), The Penthouse: War in Life, Strong Woman Do Bong Soon, Crash Landing on You, Itaewon Class, and Hotel del Luna.

I agree! People should consider love carefully. They need to distinguish what is true love, not in the fantasy of love.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how much these shows contribute to a false understanding of what love and relationships look like.
DeleteI definitely agree , media plays a part in portraying the outside world and I think it's super important to remember that you shouldn't base your worldview around just media. I like to think about Mexico a lot when it comes to this because Hollywood really likes portraying Mexico as this strange desolate desert wasteland and some people do genuinely think that's how it looks. So I do agree that you shouldn't view the world through the scope of media alone.
ReplyDeleteI once talked about something that happened to me in the subway in Cairo and half the people I was talking to were stunned that there was a subway in an African city. Movies like The Lion King had them thinking that there werent even cities in Africa let alone subways.
DeleteI also think it’s important to mention that this app seems unreal but technology makes everything possible now a days. I definitely wouldn’t rely on that to determine my entire future but it would be interesting watching the world expand its technology like that.
